The anticipation around The 67th annual Grammy Awards held on February 3, 2025, had been nothing short of electric.

From heated debates on social media to passionate discussions in fan communities, music enthusiasts worldwide have rallied behind their favorite artists.

Afrobeat artists were in the spotlight as they were nominated in categories once dominated by Western acts.

On GoWagr, traders buzzed with excitement, predicting which Afrobeat artist would win the award in their category. Every fanbase came ready to represent.

The Nominees That Got Everyone Talking

When the Grammy nominations were announced, Artists like Rema and Tems secured a spot in the Best Global Music Album category for their albums “HEIS” and “Born in the Wild.”

There was also a lineup of old and new cats competing for the Best African Music Performance category, introduced by the Recording Academy to recognize the global impact of African artists and their music. Artists in this category were:

  • Tems – “Love Me JeJe”
  • Asake & Wizkid – “MMS”
  • Chris Brown ft. Davido & Lojay – “Sensational”
  • Yemi Alade – “Tomorrow”
  • Burna Boy – “Higher”

On Qalla by GoWagr, users could predict the winner of each category by purchasing “Yes” or “No” shares for specific outcomes.

They could also adjust their positions by selling their shares and buying new ones based on new information or emotional sentiments.

On January 22nd, our traders began predicting Tems to win a Grammy in her nominated category Best African Music Performance, with a 33% chance over other nominees.

But from January 28th – 30th, MMS (Asake ft Wizkid) took over the market, leading at 40% with Love Me JeJe (Tems), and Sensational (C.Brown ft Davido) coming up at second and third with 21% and 20% respectively.

As the ceremony approached, the market showed shifting trends. Asake & Wizkid’s MMS dropped to 37% and was still leading the market but Davido fans were clearly not having it. From February 1st, his fans had a run at it and Davido was leading the Best African Music Performance category over Tems, Wizkid & Asake, Burna Boy, and Yemi Alade.

On the day of the Grammys, Tems still had a 63% chance of winning, however for the Best African Music Performance category, she was knocked out of the race.

As the night progressed, traders waited for the winner to be announced. Then came the big reveal:

“And the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance goes to Love me Jeje – Tems”

As she celebrated, so did social media explode with reactions. While supporters of other nominees debated the decision, one group was especially happy: those who predicted Tems to win. Tems’ victory also meant huge payouts for users who backed her win.
