AnambraDecides 2025: Soludo, Moghalu and 14 Others Battle as Nigeria Enters Its Era of Real-Time Politics

2–3 minutes

Something about this year’s Anambra governorship election feels different. It’s not just the posters on Awka streets or the campaign rallies in Nnewi, it’s the quiet sense that this one could redefine how Nigerians experience democracy. On November 8, as voters head to the polls, they won’t just be choosing a governor. They’ll be part of a test — a test for technology, transparency, and truth.

For the first time in Nigeria’s history, artificial intelligence is expected to be used in monitoring election results live from actual polling units. The system is reported by INEC to be capable of reading and analysing uploaded result sheets with about 95% accuracy.

That means from Awka to Ihiala, voters and observers could see tallies in near real time — much like elections in the US or UK. In a country where delayed results often fuel suspicion, this could change everything. Nigerians may no longer need to wait till the next morning (or week) to argue over who won; they can watch democracy unfold, one polling unit at a time.

And maybe, just maybe, this is the election where the majority’s voice will finally be seen as it happens — not contested after the fact.

Meet the Contenders

Let’s start with the names on everyone’s lips,

Charles Soludo (APGA) – 78%

Soludo is the incumbent governor and the candidate projected by most traders to secure the coveted seat (78%). So far, he has campaigned that his second term would be about finishing what he started.

How many LGAs can he secure for his party?

George Moghalu (Labour Party) – 7%

Moghalu brings administrative calm to a heated race. But he’ll need more than plans to break into a race dominated by old loyalties. A co-sign from former Presidential candidate, Peter Obi may be a good way to start perhaps.

Will LP win any LGA in Anambra?

Ukachukwu Nicholas (APC) – 10%

Nicholas fancies himself as the man who can bring national power closer to the state and tackle insecurity while reviving Anambra’s economy. Can he pull a surprise?

Which party will win the Anambra election?

And that’s your line up, a mix of technocrats, reformers, and risk-takers. But this time, it’s not just about who wins the vote; it’s about how we see it happen.
